A 27-year-old man, Usman Adamu, has been detained for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

The teenager was said to have gone into a coma while being raped by the suspect in an uncompleted building.

The suspect, who was mobbed by neighbours and people in the Dutsen Kura area of the state capital, was handed over to the police for further investigation.

The state Centre Manager, RAYUWA Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Dr Yinka Umeh, who made this known at a one-day workshop on sexual abuse in Minna, said over 250 rape cases were recorded in the state between 2014 and 2018.

Umeh  added that only 52 convictions were secured, noting that rape cases involving minors and teenagers were frequent.

Northern City News gathered that Adamu lured his victim with N500, assuring her that he would give her eggs and bread.

A member of SARC in Niger state, Dr Musa Mashegu, told our correspondent, “The girl was raped by the suspect in an uncompleted building. As I am talking to you, the girl who bled profusely is still in the hospital receiving treatment.

“The victim told us, she didn’t know what the suspect was doing. She said he promised to get her eggs and bread everyday and gave her N500 making it N1,000 because her mother had given her N500 to buy eggs and bread.”
